Our pick for a date or a catch-up outdoors: rent a bike, take the Stanley Park seawall at a conversational pace and leave room to stop. You get changing waterfront views and something to do together without booking an entire day of activities. Bring someone who already feels comfortable riding; a busy path is not the easiest place to learn the basics.

The short version: Stanley Park, then English Bay

The City’s seawall guide puts the park section at 9 km, with about an hour of cycling. That is not the full rental outing. English Bay Bike Rentals estimates around 11 km shop-to-shop from its Davie Street location; fitting, stops and finding your way add time.

Our suggestion is to allow 2–3 hours for an unhurried outing and choose a rental period with some breathing room. Start on the Coal Harbour side and ride counterclockwise, around Brockton Point, beneath Lions Gate Bridge and past Third and Second beaches. The official park map shows the designated cycling route.

If you collect a bike at English Bay, ask the shop to show the internal connection to the east-side start. Do not simply head clockwise around the outer seawall. Stay on the cycling side and pull completely off the path for photos. The view will still be there after you stop.

Finish near English Bay, return the rentals and then choose a bite or a drink downtown. That keeps the rental clock out of the dinner conversation.

What two rental bikes actually cost

One checked example is English Bay Bike Rentals, 1754 Davie Street. Its city hybrid rates, plus the stated 5% GST, work out to:

  • Two hours: $20.95 per bike before tax, approximately $44 for two including GST.
  • Three to six hours: $31.43 per bike before tax, approximately $66 for two including GST.
  • Turbo e-bikes: approximately $88 for two for two hours, or $132 for two for three to six hours, including GST at the listed rates.

These are our rounded calculations, not an outing package. Food, transport and additional rental time are extra. We would choose a regular hybrid for the mainly flat park loop, and consider electric assistance for a longer ride if both riders are comfortable with it.

The rental terms include a helmet and lock. Bring government photo ID and a credit card; the shop also lists a $50-per-bike cash or Interac deposit option for regular bikes with ID. E-bikes require a $1,000 credit-card hold per bike, separate from the fee.

Confirm the return deadline at pickup: the shop’s pages currently disagree on closing time, and there is no after-hours drop-off. Availability and the right sizes are not guaranteed. Spokes is another rental option nearer the Georgia Street park entrance; compare the selected bike’s total and return terms rather than headline hourly rates alone.

Keep going toward Kitsilano or the west side

Make this a deliberate longer outing, rather than an extra lap you promise halfway through. From English Bay, the False Creek waterfront opens up another route toward Granville Island and Kitsilano. Following False Creek around its eastern end is a longer choice than crossing a bridge. Use the City’s cycling map to agree on the route and ride home before leaving the shop.

We would treat Kitsilano as the first extension and Jericho or Spanish Banks as a separate half-day ambition. The route west is not an uninterrupted flat path beside the water: expect signed cycling connections, some hills and different surfaces. Our suggested longer rental allowance is three to six hours, not a measured promise that every rider will reach Spanish Banks and return in that time.

Bring a packed lunch, water, a layer and a bag that secures to the bike. Stop somewhere permitted, lock up and enjoy the picnic without occupying the cycle path. Check the current construction information: Cambie Bridge and Coopers’ Park works involve seawall detours, and Kits Point changes are planned for fall 2026. Follow posted routes rather than an old saved screenshot.

Bikes, e-bikes or electric scooters?

Vancouver’s current rules allow regular bikes, compliant electric-assisted bikes and electric kick scooters on seawall and park paths where signs or markings permit cycling. That permission does not extend to every footpath or to mopeds or limited-speed motorcycles.

The electric kick scooter rules require riders to be 16 or older, wear a helmet and ride one person per device. The general legal maximum is 25 km/h, but lower posted path limits and conditions govern; sidewalks are off limits. A shared-scooter operator may have a smaller service area or parking restrictions. We have not verified a scooter rental price or a service covering this entire route.

Our recommendation is a conventional rental bike for the simplest version of this plan. If weather or confidence makes riding unappealing, take the little ferry to Granville Island and build the afternoon around food or a show instead.
